HAT TUTORIAL

You asked for it Susan so here is the little tutorial on how i made my hats you can make them as simple or as over the top as you want depending on what materials and trims you use i only had some simple materials but still had fun all the same and im pleased with my results

FIRST YOU NEED FLOWERS

Punch out seven flower shapes

Layer the first three one on top of the other slightly at a diffrent angles each time

Then take a ball tool and just lightly shape the fourth

Glue that to the other three dont press it flat though

Take the fifth flower and shape it a little more than the forth with the ball tool

Shape the sixth flower even more again and Roll the seventh flower into a ball

Now glue the fifth flower to the first four and then add the sixth flower

Glue the ball to the centre

Finished flowers make about eight depending on how you want to decorate your hat

THE TOOLS AND MATERIALS I USED

The punch i used

Feathers

Felt cut into circles about three to four inches although you will be trimming these smaller for the end result
You also need scissors a small ball tool and trick marker that fades to draw your circle i used a cork circle mat to draw my circles but use anything about three or four inch in circumference

The cork circles have half a wooden bead glued to the centres i got these at hobbycraft and glued them with super glue i think the bead is about half inch

I also used some chess pieces just plastic hollw ones i removed the bottoms they fit over the top of the bead just right these are my formers nothing technical here just everyday items just great for the job

SO LETS MAKE THE HAT

Take a circle of felt and spray it with starch the stuff used for ironing shirts

Hold it over the former and use your chess piece to mold it over the bead twist the chess piece a few times to make an impression in the felt

Now you can use an iron to smooth out the wrinkles and dry the hat with a hair dryer until its dry and stiff enough to work with

Cut the circle to the required size and add the trim to the brim
Decorate with the flowers and some feathers
And enjoy your creation have fun

  2. This is a great tutorial! I had a shot at making a hat a long time ago, and it failed miserably. But the tutorial I followed was no where as clear and simple as this! Thank you for sharing, I'm going to have another go! And thank you for posting pictures of your designs, great for inspiration! :D
